Tasmanian Family Medical in Burnie, Tasmania is experiencing rapid growth and is seeking an experienced practice nurse (registered nurse) to join their team in a full-time role.

The Position

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to deliver comprehensive and patient-centred care.
  • Conduct patient assessments, including triage, history taking, and physical examinations.
  • Provide expert nursing care, including wound management, vaccinations, health promotion, and chronic disease management.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of patient records.
  • Be responsible for Infection Control and cold chain management.
  • Be responsible for vaccine and medical consumables management.
  • Assist in the coordination of health programs, screenings, and immunisations.
  • Support the implementation of best practice guidelines and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Be responsible for quality control relating to accreditation, data cleaning, WHS and clinical governance.
  • Be responsible for supervising and guiding nurses and nursing students to ensure that optimal care is provided, and staff supported.
  • Assist with performance appraisals.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Registered Nurse qualification with current AHPRA registration.
  • Knowledge of standards for general practice (5th Edition) is desirable.
  • Previous experience working in a general practice or primary care setting is highly desirable.
  • Strong clinical skills, including the ability to perform assessments, manage various conditions and provide patient education.
  • Knowledge of Privacy, Infection control and Cold chain requirements as applicable to general practice settings and ability to take charge of practice nursing policies and procedures.
  • Competency in CPR.
  • Competency in chronic disease care plans.
  • Able to demonstrate proficiency in using general practice medical software systems for documentation and record-keeping.
  • Ability to lead a team, offering support and training as needed.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport with patients, colleagues, and healthcare professionals.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • In possession of a current working with children and vulnerable people registration.
  • Able to work with multiple changes to the practice booking diary and to work flexibly.

Tasmanian Family Medical, established in 2017, is a thriving practice with a team of 10 doctors, supported by dedicated practice management, practice nurses, and receptionists.

The practice offers a comprehensive range of GP services, including chronic disease management, immunisations, travel medicine, and sports medicine. Onsite services such as pathology, psychology, social work and an employee wellbeing service, relaxation, sports and remedial massage, orthotics & prosthetics, cosmetic injectable service, and specialist services in urology, cardiology, endocrinology, nephrology, and general surgery further enhance the comprehensive care provided.
