Participants under the Bonded Medical Places Scheme have a return of service obligation (RoSO) to work for a period of twelve months to six years in rural and remote areas within Australia
As part of the Stronger Rural Health Strategy, the reforms to the Bonded Medical Places Scheme (BMP) will include:
- simplified administration by moving from individual contract arrangements to a legislated program
- a new standard three-year return of service obligation (RoSO)
- an interactive web-based portal and other digital communication channels to support bonded students and doctors to better understand and manage their bonded obligations.
The reform to the Bonded Medical Places (BMP) Scheme and the Medical Rural Bonded Scholarship (MRBS) Scheme will take effect from 1 January 2020. Both new and current participants might require support and assistance, especially those with previous arrangements considering to ‘opt-in’ to the reformed program arrangements.
