The nearest large town is Burnie, a 15 minute drive away.

The Organisation

Wynyard Medical Centre is a well-established family practice within a spacious and well-appointed building and takes pride in providing a welcoming teaching environment to medical students, nursing students and GP registrars. The practice has full accreditation for RACGP registrars and restricted accreditation for ACRRM registrars.

The medical team currently consists of five full-time GPs supported by a pool of four practice nurses and six administration staff. The practice offers a full suite of services to patients across all age groups, including travel medicine and occupational medicine, and enjoys a large patient catchment across the north-west and west coasts.

A number of specialists provide a visiting service to the practice via video conference, including a neurosurgeon/spinal surgeon, neurologist and psychiatrist. Visiting allied health services comprise an audiometrist, dietitian, physiotherapist and respiratory scientist. Tertiary services are available at North West Regional Hospital in Burnie.

The practice is open from 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and from 9am to 12pm Saturday to Sunday. To minimise after-hours call-outs, it utilises the after-hours triage service GP Assist. The practice is fully accredited with GPA, fully computerised using Medical Director and PracSoft and offers a mixture of bulk and private billing.

Lifestyle in the North West

The North West region of Tasmania is famous worldwide for having some of the most beautiful natural places you can find in Australia. Live in safe and supportive communities close to beautiful coastlines, food trails and breathtaking national parks.

HR+ provide an invaluable service to Practice Managers in Tasmania. Jenny has acted as a mentoring support for me since I commenced at Don Medical Clinic in September 2018, and also supported me through networking events and education during my previous practice manager role in Hobart. Having a mentor like Jenny from HR+ has made a huge difference to me as I find my feet in the challenging world of practice management. I have found the support that HR+ provide, not only with mentoring but also the events put on by the Practice Support team, and the email support networking resources that are regularly provided, are invaluable and I am sure for many other practice managers in the state.
