Respiratory Physician

Tasmanian Lung Service

Location: Northern Tasmania       Occupation: General Practitioner, Other Medical Specialists       Title Description: GP       Position Type: Full Time, Permanent

Excellent opportunity to join this thriving private respiratory service in the dream-lifestyle city of Launceston.

The Position

The Tasmanian Lung Service (TLS) is seeking 1-2 Respiratory Physicians on a full-time basis for patient consultations and reporting at its Launceston laboratory. There is a great need, with TLS having a wide referral base and many LFTs from Launceston General Hospital and the North West Regional Hospital outsourced to TLS.

Perhaps you have recently Fellowed and are looking for that first great opportunity?

Currently the practice is open Mon/Tues/Wed/Fri but would have capacity to open on Thursdays as well if there were two Respiratory Physicians. Whilst there is no weekend work, there is the option to take on additional LFT reporting after hours.

You will have the opportunity to build on your knowledge base and be stimulated through strong collegial interaction with hospitals, GP clinics and other respiratory physicians across the state.

The Organisation

Launceston is Tasmania’s second largest city, sitting at the head of the Tamar Valley with great schools, parks, restaurants and close to heritage estates, wineries, bushwalking, mountain biking, beaches and skiing yet only an hour’s flight to Melbourne.

TLS is privately owned and operates two complex lung function testing laboratories (Launceston and Hobart) utilising state-of-the-art equipment. It also operates 7 airway clinics for less complex testing in general practices across the north, north-west and south of Tasmania, with occupational testing offered at worksites.

The TLS team consists of the service director, two laboratory medical directors, respiratory physicians (potentially two), three respiratory scientists and three administration staff. The current premises were purchased in 2020 and have been extensively renovated. All rooms have natural light and external windows and you will have an allocated car-parking space. The practice uses Zedmed for its clinical/appointment software and there is online access. Billing is primarily fee-for-service, with a reduced rate in certain circumstances.

What's on offer?

  • Generous remuneration based on a percentage of earnings
  • Accommodation and vehicle package for the first month while you settle in
  • Promotion of your arrival to the TLS referral base
  • Assistance with setting up your new practice
  • Training in the use of Zedmed

HR+ provide an invaluable service to Practice Managers in Tasmania. Jenny has acted as a mentoring support for me since I commenced at Don Medical Clinic in September 2018, and also supported me through networking events and education during my previous practice manager role in Hobart. Having a mentor like Jenny from HR+ has made a huge difference to me as I find my feet in the challenging world of practice management. I have found the support that HR+ provide, not only with mentoring but also the events put on by the Practice Support team, and the email support networking resources that are regularly provided, are invaluable and I am sure for many other practice managers in the state.
