Northern Midlands Medical Services
Location: Northern Tasmania
Occupation: General Practitioner
Title Description: GP/VMO
Position Type: Full Time
Moratorium Period: 9 Years
Northern Midlands Medical Service is seeking a VR GP/VMO to join the practice on a full-time basis working across its three sites at Longford, Perth and Campbell Town.
Northern Midlands Medical Services is seeking a VR GP to join them on a full-time basis (4 days per week) working across three sites on a roster basis.
This long-established privately-owned practice provides health services to a population of approximately 12,500 people across the greater Northern Midlands community, with surgeries at Longford and more recently Perth and Campbell Town.
The doctors also provide services to the local nursing homes at Longford and Perth, and at Campbell Town to the co-located residential aged care facility and district hospital. After hours calls are triaged by GP Assist and at Campbell Town by the hospital. The new doctor will therefore need to become credentialled with Tasmanian Health Service in order to be able to provide VMO services at Campbell Town district hospital and, if required, at Toosey Memorial Hospital.
This opportunity would suit someone with appropriate recent emergency experience and qualifications who is able to work on their own. An interest in teaching would be welcomed.
Northern Midlands Medical Services comprises three practices. Longford Medical Centre has been operating for over 40 years, with Perth Doctors Surgery being established in 2015 and Campbell Town Doctors Surgery being taken over in late 2020. The region has a fine colonial heritage, boasting rich pastoral landscapes surrounded by picturesque mountains to the east and west. Longford and Perth are peaceful rural towns just 15 minutes to Launceston and Campbell Town is on the Heritage Highway 45 minutes south of Launceston.
Currently there are 7 permanent doctors and 5 GP registrars, supported by 5 registered nurses, an enrolled nurse, office manager, business manager and 9 receptionists.
All three practices are accredited by AGPAL and offer comprehensive general practice medical and nursing services based, plus minor surgery, on a mixed billing model. The practices are fully computerised using Best Practice and are open from Monday to Friday, with the Longford surgery also open on Saturday mornings.
Specialist telehealth consultations are available from the Longford surgery and other services include pathology, a neurologist, diabetologist, lung function testing, audiologist, diabetes educator, dietitian, psychologist and mental health nurse practitioner.
Northern Midlands Medical Services has a long history of providing medical education to Australian and international graduates. The Longford and Perth surgeries are accredited to train RACGP and ACRRM registrars and Campbell Town is in the process of applying for accreditation. All three locations also host medical and nursing students.
