DPA: Yes       MMM: 3       Moratorium Period: 7 years

Stunning architect-designed and funkily decorated practice in a gorgeous seaside location on Tasmania's abundant NW coast. Not only that, but it is an award-winning training practice. This one's got a lot to offer!

The Position

Saunders Street Clinic is looking for two full-time GPs to join the practice.

The doctors at Saunders Street Clinic are experienced in a broad range of general medical problems and provide treatment to all age groups. The clinic has a strong training focus and welcomes enquiries from GPs who are interesting in providing support to students and registrars.

You will be required to participate in the on-call roster, however the clinic utilises the after hours triage service of Health Direct to minimise out-of-hours calls. You may also provide support to the local aged care facility, and home visits are restricted to the township only.

Consulting hours are Monday to Friday 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, with the practice closed from 12.30 - 2.00 pm for lunch.

The Organisation

Wynyard (population 5,000) is a relaxed seaside town situated on the picturesque north-west coast of Tasmania and famous for nearby Table Cape and fields of stunning tulips in spring. It is located at the mouth of the Inglis River and is a popular holiday spot for beachgoers and fishermen, and just an hour and a half away from Cradle Mountain and many other terrific walks for those who are keen on the great outdoors. The Wynyard airport services NW Tasmania and provides access direct to Melbourne. The nearest large town is Burnie (population 20,000), a 15 minute drive away.

Saunders Street Clinic is privately owned and operates a private billing model. It began operation in 2009 and relocated to its current site in 2013. The clinic has been renovated and refurbished to transform it into an aesthetically stunning space, with a focus on creating a wellness atmosphere. It is fully computerised with PracSoft/Medical Director and has seven consultation rooms, two nurses’ rooms and a dedicated teaching room.

The practice is accredited to the RACGP 5th edition standards, hosts University of Tasmania Rural Clinical School medical students on a regular basis and is accredited by RACGP and ACRRM for all levels of GP registrars. It received national recognition in 2020, being awarded both RACGP General Practice of the Year and RACGP GP Supervisor of the Year.

The clinic currently has six permanent general practitioners and two GP registrars (working a mixture of full-time and part-time), who are supported by two full-time equivalent nursing staff. The clinic has a multidisciplinary approach to providing health care, and a number of health professionals provide a visiting service to the practice, including a physiotherapist, general physician/intensivist, rheumatologist, audiologist and OT.

Lifestyle in the North West

The North West region of Tasmania is famous worldwide for having some of the most beautiful natural places you can find in Australia. Live in safe and supportive communities close to beautiful coastlines, food trails and breathtaking national parks.

HR+ provide an invaluable service to Practice Managers in Tasmania. Jenny has acted as a mentoring support for me since I commenced at Don Medical Clinic in September 2018, and also supported me through networking events and education during my previous practice manager role in Hobart. Having a mentor like Jenny from HR+ has made a huge difference to me as I find my feet in the challenging world of practice management. I have found the support that HR+ provide, not only with mentoring but also the events put on by the Practice Support team, and the email support networking resources that are regularly provided, are invaluable and I am sure for many other practice managers in the state.
