Family-oriented practice in Huonville, the gateway to the stunning Huon Valley, seeking a full-time or part-time VR GP. With so much to see and do in this beautiful part of the world, you’ll wonder why it took you so long to come on down!

The Position

Huon Doctors Surgery is a privately-owned, medium-sized general practice located in the rural township of Huonville in southern Tasmania, about 30 minutes south of Hobart in the beautiful Huon Valley. It provides a comprehensive range of family medical services. The doctors visit Huon Eldercare, the local aged care facility, on a rotational basis, with some of them also having admitting rights to the six rural health beds there.

The practice seeks an additional full-time or part-tme GP, who is preferably vocationally registered. An interest in helping support medical students and GP registrars would be an advantage.

The Organisation

With a population of nearly 4,000, Huonville is the largest town in the Huon Valley. The area retains the beauty, charm and heritage of a bygone area and is a popular tourist destination. It is also renowned for viticulture, agriculture (think apples, cherries and raspberries), timber production and salmon production, being the home of Tassal and Huon Aquaculture. The “Taste of the Huon” festival is held on the first weekend of March and showcases the fresh produce and wines on offer in the valley. Music and arts buffs won’t miss out, with various signature annual events.

Accredited by AGPAL and an accredited teaching practice for Term 3 registrars, Huon Doctors Surgery currently employs five full-time GPs, three nurses, a practice manager and four reception staff. Other services available are a chronic disease nurse and visiting urologist and psychologist.

The practice is fully computerised and uses Medical Director and Pracsoft for patient records, billings and appointments.

Consulting hours are Monday to Friday 8.30 am – 6 pm. The practice does not open after hours or on weekends or public holidays, and the medical deputising service GP Assist is used to cover after hours patient needs.

What's on offer?

The practice is offering a competitive remuneration package based on percentage of earnings and welcomes discussions with potential candidates.

In conjunction with the practice, HR+ will organise an orientation program on arrival tailored to the doctor’s needs.

HR+ provide an invaluable service to Practice Managers in Tasmania. Jenny has acted as a mentoring support for me since I commenced at Don Medical Clinic in September 2018, and also supported me through networking events and education during my previous practice manager role in Hobart. Having a mentor like Jenny from HR+ has made a huge difference to me as I find my feet in the challenging world of practice management. I have found the support that HR+ provide, not only with mentoring but also the events put on by the Practice Support team, and the email support networking resources that are regularly provided, are invaluable and I am sure for many other practice managers in the state.
