Burnie General Practice is seeking a full-time or part-time vocationally registered GP to join its team. The practice operates Monday to Friday 8.30am until 5.00pm. A Saturday clinic operates 9.00am until midday, running on a roster system with other GPs in the practice.  After hours triage is provided by Health Direct.  The practice is family orientated and will work with the candidate to enable a suitable work/life balance.

Burnie General Practice is located in the plaza arcade adjacent to a pharmacy.  Being located in the CBD means the practice has a broad range of patients.  The practice caters for emergency walk-in appointments and the nursing staff offer a triage service for urgent presentations.

Some clinicians at Burnie General Practice provide regular visits to residents of the local nursing home.

The practice

Burnie General Practice is part of IPN Medical Centres.  Burnie is located on the North West Coast of Tasmania and is “the city by the sea”.  It has a population of approximately 20,000 people and is located near beautiful beaches, with a wonderful wilderness experience a short drive away, yet only an hour’s flight from Melbourne.

Burnie General Practice currently has a team of 5 permanent doctors and 2 registrars on placement from GPTT.  Being a training practice, it welcomes medical students and nursing student placements.  There are 8 well equipped consulting rooms, a procedure room and a 3 bay treatment room.  The doctors are supported by the practice manager, 3 dedicated nurses, a diabetes educator, a dietitian and 4 reception staff.

A full range of GP services is provided.  The nursing staff assist with health management clinics, wound care, iron infusions, ear syringing, pathology services and with skin checks and procedures.

In addition, the practice is a Travelvax clinic, offering a full comprehensive travel medicine plan, and offers telehealth consultations. Cardiac management is also offered with 3 brand new Holter Monitors supported and reported by a local cardiologist and a 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitor.

Meetings are held monthly to discuss clinical issues and guest speakers visit.  The clinical program used is Best Practice.  Burnie General Practice is QPA accredited and offers a mix of private and bulk-billing services.

What’s on offer?

The practice is offering a competitive remuneration package based on a percentage of earnings and welcomes discussions with potential candidates. A comprehensive induction program will be available to the successful candidate.
