John Flynn Placement Program

John Flynn Placement Program

Have you considered the great lifestyle working in a rural area can offer?

If so, why not get involved in the John Flynn Placement Program (JFPP). We can provide you with early exposure to rural clinical practice and the unique lifestyle that comes with it.

The John Flynn Placement Program is an initiative of the Australian Government Department of Health and offers you the opportunity to experience clinical practice and lifestyle in remote and rural locations across Australia.

Each year, 300 medical students from 21 participating universities, will be selected to spend eight weeks over four years in a remote or rural community with a one-to-one professional mentor

If you are a Medical student currently in year 1 or 2 at UTAS, you can still apply for the 2019 intake. For more information, please visit the John Flynn Placement Program website.

During my placement in Tasmania, I've not only had the opportunity to interact with patients, give injections and do exams/histories but I've also been fortunate enough to be a tourist in Tasmania. In the clinic, I've been learning how to effectively communicate with patients as well as enhancing my practical skills through regular blood pressure, temperature checks, respiratory and cardiac exams as well as injections and cryotherapy. Meanwhile, in the evenings I've been integrating into the community thanks to my host; I've met so many wonderful people. The other really great thing was meeting other JFPP students from different universities. Thanks for the opportunity to learn so much clinically, but also meet so many wonderful people and genuinely have a good time
